This tale is set in the old west near the Mogollon Rim. Young Simoriah was adopted by Shannon and her now deceased father, Edward. Though well loved, she has always felt like a misfit due to her unique characteristics. Her unusually thick skin leaves her impervious to moisture and grime. She can work harder and recover faster than any grown man trying to eek a living from the rugged American southwest. She can see and hear better than anyone she knows.

When two strangers are hit with a thunderbolt at the crossroads in front of her family farm, everything changes. Now Sim must track down these two mysterious men to find out if they are like her, or even worse, if she is like them. All she knows and loves hangs in the balance.
