Where’s the banana?
Don’t know. I guess the banana split.
Let’s talk about social media. Don’t worry. I’m not here to talk about how bad it is for you. That’s your mom’s job. Truth is, if you can’t handle it, that’s a “you problem.” Okay okay, I’m not here to be snarky either. I just wanted to make a few comparisons from the author standpoint.
First off, X is pretty cool. There’s a lot of support from the author community there, and it’s not hard to find. You can get plenty of followers if you don’t shoot off your mouth all the time or act like a psycho. The downside is that it can be an echo chamber, though a positive one. That having been said, if I could only use one, that’s the one I would keep.
Facebook is okay, but not very useful promotion or marketing wise. It can be so, if you’re strategic about it. But it’s really more of an old standby at this point. There are plenty of good groups, though, like “Wide for the Win” and several others.
Now, for the one with the biggest potential and disappointment, Instagram. IG is fun and engaging if you’re a follower. Likewise, there are plenty of tactics available to collect them. The bots are overwhelming, though. And don’t even get me started on the OF “models.” The biggest problem with this platform is its dishonest algorithm. Sure, you may have 2 thousand followers, but many of them will never see your posts because of how it’s (or it’s not) offered up.
And now for the star of the show, TikTok. I only recently started this one due to all the political controversy surrounding it. In the past month, there has been one major takeaway. People (and bots) are actually seeing my posts. I batch my posts for the week. TT gets basically the same stuff as IG. The results comparisons are dramatic. Every so often I throw out some redneck jokes. On IG, they get maybe 30 to 50 views. My last two, however, both got well over a thousand views on TikTok. I’m not even using the apps’ professional tools yet! Meta needs to straiten up and fly right.
And to wrap things up. Substack, while it’s a hybrid model of sorts, is the only other user friendly platform for content creators. I know there are plenty of other apps out there (YouTube, SnapChat, etc.) but this one I’m using right now has been the most trustworthy by far. I hope my little rant helps any potential authors and/or content creators out there. It’s just my 2 cents.
On the writing front - I wrote the first two chapters of MOONDOM FIVE last week. The third chapter will probably fly out of my brain next week. I’m a teacher, and standardized testing is coming up, so I’ll be indisposed for a while. Enjoy the rest of your April, folks.
Until Next Time, God Bless!
