If you go to Stuckey’s, get a pecan log. If you go to Buc-cee’s, get them beaver nuggets. If you’re out of money, read my newsletter.
It’s the weekend after Thanksgiving, so I’ll be pulling out the old Christmas tree sometime later today. Christmas is one month away, and I haven’t bought the first gift yet. Lucky for me, I have a wonderful wife who’s already been stressing out about it for a while now. It’s not fair to her, but I sure do appreciate it. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas season.
Let’s talk about book awards. I have four award winners in my catalogue - THE GHOST OF DREAM GULLY, THE CURSE OF MR. M’s CASTLE, SKATE OR DIE JACOB JONES, and ALL GRANDPAS FISH. Why did I bother with book award contests? Well, I believed in these stories. It’s not that I don’t believe in my other books as well, but these are close to my heart. I thought they were worth the risk of some money and scrutiny. They did far better than I hoped. Sure, they didn’t win the grand prize, but they placed in their categories. Yes, there was constructive criticism in the process, but it’s worth swallowing your pride to become a better writer.
My two favorite book award’s organizations are THE OUTSTANDING CREATOR AWARDS and THE FIREBIRD BOOK AWARDS. The former offers an editorial review (that afore mentioned constructive criticism), but also works hard to include your work in as many categories as possible. The latter supports an important charity, women’s and children’s shelters. They are both run by supportive people with good hearts too. I’m honored to be affiliated with both of them and to have their emblems on my books.
As always, my links are posted in the newsletter subtitle. Have a Merry Christmas and God Bless!
