I recently had to remove one of my books from Amazon. Here’s the story. A few years ago, yours truly wanted to save people some money by putting my first four stories together in an anthology. After doing so, my fiction audiobook was made available in partnership with Jesse Weimer, an excellent voice for my work. Soon after, I learned (via YouTube of course) that Amazon doesn’t like you to bundle your work. So I thought to my self, “Self, they published it. If they take it down, that’s fine by me.”
Fast forward to present day - It was time to update my keywords. All of a sudden, Amazon blocks one of my books for being too much like another book. Of course they blocked the wrong book (eye roll). So I contact them and get my canned letter responses. But I knew what to do to make things right.
ANTHOLOGY OF SEASONS is no longer available on Amazon, but is still available through my other publisher. This means it’s still pretty much available wherever books are sold. The funny thing to me is that it will eventually be available through Amazon again whether I like it or not, just like how they carry my one of my joke books that I specifically did not publish on their platform.
The good news is that the audiobook is still available. Also you can check out the ebook with your trusty library card on the Libby or Hoopla apps. Kobo Plus and Everand members can read it for free as well. Book stores all over the world can get it for you too. One fine day, the book will, once again, end up on that big company named after a big river.
That, my friends, is self publishing in a nutshell.
