A friend of mine is a window washer for city skyscrapers. He told me the job wasn’t dangerous at all. When I said I had a hard time believing that, he said, “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”
This is a news story that I didn’t want to share at first because it involves the two subjects I like the least, AI and lawsuits. But there’s a major plot twist that has the potential to affect authors, publishers, editors, and readers alike. Basically, a popular Indy book called Shy Girl (sorry, can’t remember the author’s name) was picked up by a big publisher, but was unceremoniously dropped because of AI related allegations. Usually that would be an end-of-story scenario, but not this time. The author is having none of it. She claims that she never used AI to write her book and isn’t going to have her name besmirched, so she’s brought counter suit. Furthermore, she stated if there is any AI content, it would have happened in the editing process. Folks, THAT opens a whole new can of worms.
Okay, there’s no telling, as of yet anyway, what the implications will be. But what’s at stake could turn out to be massive. The chain of custody between authors and readers is far more complex than most would assume. If there’s a breach of trust anywhere, fiascos like the current one cannot be avoided. That signifies a possible break down in the writing-publishing process, which will eventually affect you, the reader. Here’s another fly in the proverbial ointment. AI detection software has a lot of false positives. There have been many times that classic novels have been flagged for being AI generated, books over 100 years old, which is completely impossible. So in short, this is a big mess that could affect you and what you read. Now, I’m going to go wash the ickiness off my fingertips before continuing.
Don’t forget, I’ve got a new book out and ready to read. It’s a Sci-Fi/Fantasy adventure story for middle grade readers. I think your kids will enjoy it, and like always, I have no agenda, political or otherwise. Just good stories. Now available in all formats. The audiobook is about 3 hours long, so it may be helpful on that spring break road trip. Here’s the link and book cover. 👇👇👇
On the writing front, we are now on page 30 of my latest jokes for kids project, so the draft is now 60% complete. Still looking at the end of the year. Maybe a good Christmas gift? Squash Light is queued up for week after next. I’m hoping to get the first couple of chapters drafted during spring break. I’ve been adding trailer videos and podcasts to this page at a fairly steady rate. These are mostly done through Google Notebook LM. Confession time - I’ve been way too haphazard on this page with my ebooks. It needs a little housekeeping and organization. I have no idea which books I’ve published behind the paywall and which ones are still waiting in the wings. Hopefully, that will all soon be corrected, as I wish for my readers to have a positive experience here. We’ll get there, my friends. We’ll get there.
Until Next Time, God Bless!
