This week’s newsletter is all about friends. Independent authors quickly learn that they need friends. You can’t do it all yourself. We have to help each other out if we can. Now, I’m not going to get into some big philosophical discussion about independence versus interdependence. Lord knows there’s too much navel gazing going on nowadays. Instead, I’m just going to talk about three of my friends behind their backs.
First, I highly recommend that an author’s social media presence should include X.com. Thats where I “met” author J.A. Smith. She writes middle grade fantasy fiction. There’s this thing called a #writerslift where authors help to promote one another. JA, however, goes above and beyond by doing a little research and providing descriptions of the work that she reposts. Moreover, she has placed my work in a department of her online travel magazine, not once but twice. She didn’t have to do this, so I’m grateful. The link to her site is posted below.
Next, my long time friend, Aleks Litts, is an attorney whose career includes service in juvenile court. She’s got a pretty cool side gig too, being the co-host of a fascinating true crime podcast, JUST ONE MORE QUESTION With Marc and Aleks. When she expanded her expertise to being an author, she mentioned me on social media, which totally blew me away. Again, she didn’t have to do this, and I am grateful for her actions and her friendship. The link to the podcast is posted below.
Finally, I have two coworkers who are trying their hands at self publishing. One is writing a memoir that I believe will be a fantastic read. The other is an illustrator. Her work is currently featured in a children’s book titled EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T. That link is, once again, posted below.
Okay, now let’s talk about me. Just kidding. Just giving you the writing update, which is fairly sparse in nature, because I’m teacher tired. The plan is to begin chapter two of my current work-in-progress. I’m pretty happy with chapter one, so things are off to a pretty good start. I have put all my middle grade fantasy adventures and my two joke books on LaterPress. I love the way this company works, because when I give a sneak peek link, it goes directly to the book. No friction! You know I’m gonna post a couple of links to that too. Take a sneak peek at my two joke books for free by clicking the links below.
Until next time, God Bless!
