As I write you this newsletter, my neighborhood is under a pollen-nado watch. Okay, so it’s a tornado watch with a side of golden plant love dust. If my house gets destroyed, just know the following - we were probably on the porch watching the show. This is the south. It’s just how we roll.
Yup, you people who are all about spring, we didn’t have any of this in January. It was chilly, but we could breathe and our house wasn’t in any danger of going over the rainbow.
There is writing/publishing news this week. It’s more on the supply side, but you never know how it may affect readers later on down the line. Draft2Digital just announced an upcoming raise in fees for authors who use PayPal. Now, D2D is a pretty big distributor, so there will be plenty of authors affected. I am affected, but it’s no big deal. The problem, however, may be for authors outside the US. Many will switch to direct deposit, but some banks won’t cooperate.
What does this mean for you? Two things - prices may go up slightly in the future. Somebody’s got to eat the cost. More likely, though, there may be a slight delay before your next great read is available. Odds are that it won’t even be noticeable. But keep in mind that there’s an upcoming “trade war” on the horizon. (No politics here. Vote how you want.) Over all, the current situation is that businesses are keeping themselves competitive so they can provide services to authors and books to readers. Again, not a big deal, but it is happening right now. You never know.
On the writing front. I can’t take it anymore. I’ve got to start writing MoonDom Five! This week is spring break. That means I’m at home. If we don’t get blown away, it’s time to start the outline and commit to a story structure. I’ve been looking at a chiastic format and the heroine’s journey, which is completely different from the hero’s journey. Truth be told, all that may be a little too ambitious. I may go for the good old seven point plot line. Don’t know yet. But something’s gotta give. I did, by the way, solve the dystopian versus space opera problem. It’s kind of cool too.
Until Next Time, God Bless!
