Happy New Year’s Eve! I hope 2023 treated you well, but 2024 treats you far better. I’ll take a quick look back and then just a peek forward in this last newsletter of the year. But it’ll mostly focus on the present, because that’s where we all really live.
This was the year I wrote my first MG Horror title. It’ll probably be my last, but I am proud of the story. There were also a couple of joke books in the mix, one for kids and the other for everybody (still kid friendly). The biggest thing for my writing was the decision to “go wide.” I broke free from the Amazon machine. Yes, it’s still the biggest part of my business, but other great companies are now involved, which I believe is better for everybody in the long run. I also dropped my website and moved to Substack, which was a scary decision, but has already paid dividends in several important ways.
In the future, there may be some other big moves. I’m considering starting a publishing company, which would probably be an LLC. This would mainly be to keep certain three letter organizations happy. More on that later, I think. Also, I’m watching the AI phenomena carefully and considering using it for a few audiobooks. Certainly not for all of them, because I’d rather use real voice actors. But hey, I’m not made out of money. My next release is tentatively titled WHITE, and it’ll be about a young Banshee coming of age in a modern world. There will probably be another Redneck Language Companion in a couple of months too. Much is on the horizon!
But where are we currently? Right now, I’m working on two things, the afore mentioned WHITE and my FREE AUDIOBOOK that is posted in the podcast section of this website. As for the MG novel, I’ve completed the research phase and it has been outlined to a seven point story plan. The prologue has also been drafted. The audiobook is going more slowly than I possibly could’ve imagined. I just don’t live in a house conducive to the task. I tried to record episode three yesterday, but life happened (rather noisily). However, it will be done. Nothing worth doing is ever too easy.
With all that out of the way, I hope God blesses you greatly in the coming year. See you soon.
