Happy September! Have your first leaves fallen yet? I’m seeing traces of gold and red amongst all the green flora where we live. Autumn is my favorite time of year, and I hope it’s a long one this time. I don’t mind the winter, but there’s just something magical about fall. If you don’t enjoy this particular season, hang in there. Spring will be here before we know it.
Let’s talk about book awards. Are they worth it? The short answer is yes, but there’s a little more to it than that. If you nominate your work for an award, that doesn’t mean you’ll win. Even if you place, only one author out of many will win the cash prize. So why should you bother? The reason is to give your work third party recognition. The hardest thing for an author to get is a good review. Just like with any product, customers like to know ahead of time what they are trading for their hard earned money. If they’ve already heard of your book, that’s one thing, but those scenarios are few and far between. A book award is like a super review that one can often place right on the cover to let readers know that your title is worth reading. That’s important.
Another reason to submit to book award organizations is the opportunity to build relationships. The people judging your work are, well, people. And they are often good ones at that who are on your side. Yes, there’s money involved, for that’s the way the world works, but there’s also authentic encouragement and appreciation, even a little bit of validation. Here are links to my two favorite book award sites.
On the writing front, I’ve got a complete first draft! WHITE is now undergoing the editing process. This is usually comprised of three steps and takes the better part of six weeks to two months. Afterward, it’ll go up for preorder while my street team (opportunity coming soon) gives it a read. Hopefully it will go live some time in November. I would like it up by Halloween for the spooky vibe, but this book is not going to be rushed no matter how excited about it I happen to be.
I made a trailer, though…
Okay, since I already posted some links to my Firebird Book Award titles a few weeks ago, here are my Outstanding Creator Award winners.
I’m going to close this one out with a few pics of those book covers.
Until Next Time, God Bless!
